Virtual Layout Tour
Perry
A Chicago & Northwestern commuter train pulls into the Perry station as the sun sets in the background.
A D&H coal drag, led by a beautiful pair of RS-2s, barrels east through Perry. An OC&P switcher is working the ice house track while OC&P 2-8-0 #38 is serviced.
Perry is the western terminus of the Otter
Creek & Perry Railroad Company, a railroad that never
existed in full scale. The scene is set for the late
teens/early 1920's, and is normally the domain of Steam
Engines only!!!. There are many industries located in the
town of Perry served by the OC&P - various warehouses, an
ice house, a dairy, and a coal loading facility that receives
coal from hopper cars in Norristown, PA, to the east. The switching
operations are set up in two tiers, one in the foreground,
and one in the background, with the Garden State Northern
Mainline dividing the two. All of the crossovers and
industrial tracks are controlled by Perry Tower, situated
on the foreground tier.
Perry is also one of the first scenes to be more or less
completed on the layout. All of its scenery is in place
and has been for some time. However, like all model
railroads, changes are constantly being made. For example,
a new wooden commuter station (above)
and platform was recently
added, and a new road crossing the OC&P industrial tracks
was graded for the residents to gain access to the depot.
Little details on the railroad are always being changed as
well, such as the additon of warning lights and a crossbuck
where the industrial tracks cross the road through Perry.
Having just passed through Norristown on its way down the Branch from Otter Creek, a passenger train pulled by a GSN Consolidation approaches the depot at Perry, its final stop.
A New York Central SW-1 switches the industries in lower Perry.
Perry Tower can be seen just behind the locomotive. This engine is currently in the paint shop
and will emerge as an Otter Creek & Perry locomotive.
