Ramone Industrial & DOUG Tower
A Susquehanna locomotive drops off some tank cars of corn syrup at bulkMATTic after dropping off some wood chip hoppers at Lumber Resource. Note the NYS&W boxcars converted into an office for the complex.
A Lehigh Valley freight, led by 2-8-2 #497, approaches DOUG Tower, out of sight to the left of the picture. This is a rather unusual move, since the train is moving westbound on the Eastbound mainline. This older photo also shows the original portals before the summer 2005 facelift.
DOUG Tower governs all train movements between Middletown (to the East) and BOB Tower (to the West). DOUG Tower
is also the GSN mainline increases from two tracks to three tracks, allowing for greater traffic density. A
series of crossovers are located at DOUG Tower, as well as a switch that leads into the Lower Walterville
industrial district, to the west.
Just to the east of DOUG Tower, the Garden State Northern mainline emerges from a set of twin bores through
Paul's Mountain. This tunnel received a facelift in 2005. Also connecting to the mainline at DOUG Tower
is the Ramone Industrial complex, home of bulkMATTic, a bulk-transfer facility for corn syrup and plastic
pellets, and Lumber Resource. Although not yet completed, the Ramone Industrial facility will be one of
the Garden State Northern's largest and most important customers.
